Where We Are

Friday, March 11th, 2016: A Natural Way, Guilderland. Wearing of the Green?  You never know what we’re going to get at the open mic. Unless Neil is there; then you’ll get an old country song that Vicki hasn’t “thought of in years!”. You’ll also get wonderful food, a friendly atmosphere and more terrific music. Sign up anytime until 7:00 and we’ll get you in.  5:30-7:30 PM.

Saturday, April 9th, 2016: Cafe NOLA.  No more Lent. Come celebrate the New Orleans way, with fine food from Kevin and Robin, and fine music from us. 6:30-9 PM.

Friday, April 15th, 2016: Emack and Bolio’s.  Easter will have come and gone (it gets here early this year). Our forecast of temperatures in the 60s didn’t work out in February, but maybe it will in April.  7-10 PM.

What We’re Up To

Mike recorded At Seventeen for Drew Jacobs, who wrote a parody of the song.

FAWM (February Album-Writing Month, a challenge to write 14 songs in 28 … or 29 … days) is over.  Mike lost count.  But he made his goal.  Will he actually set any of these songs to music? He already has.

We are rooting for the Great Danes as they enter the tournament for a chance to return to the NCAAs. Wisconsin posted another big win, and is now almost certainly going dancing.  Quite a turnaround from when Mike left them for dead at 1-4 in the Big Ten back in January.

What We Like

President Obama responds to Trump’s birther nonsense.  This is how we deal with this guy.

We would really like to post Jill Sobule’s America Back, but it’s not family-friendly or safe for work, so we won’t.

Mary Chapin Carpenter takes her chances.

Sometimes new writers write old songs.  Don’t believe us?  Gillian Welch wrote Orphan Girl.  Here she performs it with David Rawlings.

Where We Are

Saturday, February 20th, 2016: Cafe NOLA, Schenectady.  The best Cajun food in the Capital District. Everyone says so, including us.  And some wonderful music to go along with it.  Our first full show of the year will include at least two songs we’ve never done before (they’ve passed the Open Mic Test!), and some of your favorites. 6:30-9:00 PM.

Where We Are

Friday, February 26th, 2016: Emack and Bolio’s.  Warm drinks and cold ice cream. Our forecast of temperatures in the 60s is not going to come true, but the weather is going to be partly moony, so come on out! For those of you who saw us at Cafe NOLA, we plan to mix it up some this week, just for you.  It’s one of the advantages of following a duo who’s been together more than 12 years. 7-10 PM.

What We’re Up To

As we mentioned, it’s FAWM (February Album-Writing Month, a challenge to write 14 songs in 28 … or 29 … days).  Mike is off to a good start with 14 songs written, although two of them have the same title.  Does that count as 14 songs?  He’s not planning to stop yet, so it may not matter.

We are ecstatic for the Great Danes putting a beat-down on arch-rivals and first-place Stony Brook, which is a great name of a bluegrass band. Wisconsin’s week was tougher, but beating a team by 9 points when you’re down by 13 with 12 minutes left is quite an accomplishment, so we’ll take it.

What We Like

One of American Songwriter magazine’s top 50 songs of 2015: Ashley Monroe at the Grand Ole Opry and The Blade.

Another: Kasey Musgraves at the CMA Awards singing Dimestore Cowgirl.
